This curated expedition takes you through two of India’s most photogenic cities, each offering distinct personalities yet sharing the common thread of Rajput grandeur. Experience Jaipur’s bustling bazaars and geometric architecture, then contrast it with Jaisalmer’s intimate desert charm and golden sandstone poetry. Every day brings new discoveries, from sunrise fort visits to moonlit desert camps.
On arrival in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, you’ll be transferred to your heritage hotel. After a short rest, begin exploring the royal city with a visit to the famous Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, followed by the grand City Palace. Next, witness the astronomical brilliance of Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Spend your evening shopping in Johari Bazaar, renowned for its gemstones, textiles, and handicrafts. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Jaipur.
After breakfast, head to Amer Fort, an imposing fortress perched on a hill, where you can take an elephant or jeep ride to the entrance. Explore its courtyards, palaces, and mirror work halls before making a brief stop at the picturesque Jal Mahal for photos. By late afternoon or evening, begin your long journey towards Jaisalmer by private car or overnight train. Depending on arrangements, you may either rest overnight en route or in Jaisalmer.
Arrive in the golden city of Jaisalmer and check into your hotel. After freshening up, set out to explore the majestic Jaisalmer Fort, a living fort filled with homes, temples, and shops. Wander through Patwon ki Haveli and Salim Singh Haveli, marveling at their intricate architecture. As evening approaches, head to the Sam Sand Dunes for an unforgettable desert experience. Ride a camel across the sands, watch the sun sink into the horizon, and then immerse yourself in a cultural evening of folk music, dance, and traditional Rajasthani dinner at your desert camp. Stay overnight under the stars in the desert.
Begin your day with a sunrise in the desert followed by breakfast. Explore Bada Bagh, a garden of cenotaphs of Jaisalmer rulers, and then visit the abandoned village of Kuldhara, which is shrouded in legend. Later, head back towards Gadisar Lake, a peaceful retreat adorned with ghats and temples. Spend the rest of the day shopping for vibrant handicrafts, leather goods, and textiles before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay in Jaisalmer.
Enjoy your final breakfast in Rajasthan before checking out. You will be dropped at Jaisalmer or Jaipur airport/railway station as you bid farewell to the colors, history, and warmth of Rajasthan.
